Costs and Financial Benefits of Undertaking Green Building Assessments

The research task force chaired by Mr. Michael Arnold of Hong Kong Land Ltd has accepted this 9-month collaborative research project, proposed by the research team headed by Prof John Burnett of the Department of Building Services Engineering of PolyU. The research project formally commenced on 17 Jan 2005. An official signing ceremony of the research contract was held on 10 May 2005 at 5:30 pm at 16/F, Lee Ka Shing Tower of PolyU with the officiating guest Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi the Director of Buildings.

The project aims to reduce uncertainty about the cost of sustainable or green buildings by providing independent data as to the .premium・ above the cost of standard construction; and to define the financial and environmental benefits that result from various levels of green building performance. In essence, the analysis will enable developers to determine the tangible benefits of seeking or obtaining a rating of .Good・, .Very Good・ and/or .Excellent・ over and above .basic・ performance.
