Costs
and Financial Benefits of Undertaking Green Building Assessments
The
research task force chaired
by Mr. Michael Arnold of Hong Kong Land Ltd has accepted this
9-month collaborative research project, proposed by the research
team headed by Prof John Burnett of the Department of
Building Services Engineering of PolyU. The research project
formally commenced on 17 Jan 2005. An official
signing ceremony of the research contract was held on
10 May 2005 at 5:30 pm at 16/F, Lee Ka Shing Tower of PolyU
with the officiating guest Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi the Director
of Buildings.
The
project aims to reduce uncertainty about the cost of sustainable
or green buildings by providing independent data as to the
.premium・ above the cost of standard construction; and to
define the financial and environmental benefits that result
from various levels of green building performance. In essence,
the analysis will enable developers to determine the tangible
benefits of seeking or obtaining a rating of .Good・, .Very
Good・ and/or .Excellent・ over and above .basic・ performance.
