To mark the commitment of both sides to this project, the two parties entered into a research agreement at an official signing ceremony held at PolyU on 24 February 2005.

¡§The signing of the research agreement today takes us another step forward in promoting adequate maintenance of ageing buildings. It is timely that the industry and academics join hands in conducting a comprehensive research into the different and difficult issues associated with ageing buildings including legal, social, economic, technological and building management aspects.¡¨

¡§This study will provide important data and knowledge, and consolidated understandings of the scale of the technological faults with possible remedies, and the influence of the social, environment, legal and economic factors, which are fundamental to the decisions to be made on the future rehabilitation for these buildings.¡¨
