Maintenance and Sustainability of the Ageing Residential Building
Stock in Hong Kong
The
research task force chaired
by Mr Chan Ka-kui of KKC Consultants Ltd accepted the proposal
submitted by the research
team led by Prof Andrew Baldwin of the Department of Building
and Real Estate (BRE) of PolyU. The project was formally launched
on 17 January 2005 and it will take 18 months for completion.
Backed by a total contract sum of HK$1.3 million, researchers
of the PolyU are embarking on this multi-disciplinary project
on the ageing residential buildings in Hong Kong. For
the detail of the Research Synopsis, please click here.
To
mark the commitment of both sides to this project, the two
parties entered into a research agreement at an
official signing ceremony held at PolyU on 24 February
2005.
¡§The
signing of the research agreement today takes us another step
forward in promoting adequate maintenance of ageing buildings.
It is timely that the industry and academics join hands in
conducting a comprehensive research into the different and
difficult issues associated with ageing buildings including
legal, social, economic, technological and building management
aspects.¡¨
------ [Mr Leung Chin-man, Permanent Secretary for Housing,
Planning and Lands (Housing)]
¡§This study will
provide important data and knowledge, and consolidated understandings
of the scale of the technological faults with possible remedies,
and the influence of the social, environment, legal and economic
factors, which are fundamental to the decisions to be made
on the future rehabilitation for these buildings.¡¨

of PolyU]
