Presentation by Prof. Albert Chan in Kyoto, Japan

Professor Albert Chan, Chairman of the Research Committee, presented a keynote speech in the 20th Symposium on Building Construction and Management of Projects of the Asian Countries organized by the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) on 22 July 2004. The objective of the Symposium was to advance construction management systems in Asian Countries. Leading researchers from eight Asian Countries/Cities, namely, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan, were invited to present the latest research findings about the construction management systems in their countries. Professor Chan gave a critical review to the construction industry of Hong Kong and identified the major problems besetting the local industry. The CII-HK initiative and its operation model were explained. Finally, latest development of partnering practices in Hong Kong was examined. The presentation was well received by some 200 overseas and Japanese delegates. Abstract of his presentation follows:
