"They say time is money and that money is the lifeblood of our industry. In this case, any time lost is much more valuable and serious. It is not a bunch of numbers in a profit and loss account. It involves the wellbeing of construction site workers and their families. The sooner we have the information, the sooner we can reinvigorate the drive to reaching our 2008 targets."

[Mr. Patrick W T Chan
Chairman of CII-HK Research Taskforce]

"He congratulated the HKU research team for winning the award and he was confident that the team has the capability and expertise to complete the project successfully. He looded forward to good collaboration betwewn University and Industry members."

[Prof. Chack-fan Lee,
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong]

"Last year, 25 out of 29 fatal industrial accidents happened on construction sites. The accident rate of 59.9 per thousand workers, almost twice the overall average, was also the highest among all industries. Clearly, we still have a long way to go and more efforts must be invested to further improve the work safety performance of this important industry."

[Mr. Matthew Cheung, JP
Permanent Secretary for Economic Development & Labour (Labour)& Commissioner for Labour]

"He considered this was a very timely project and he hoped the research would bring new insights for reinforcing the safety culture thereby improving the industry's performance on safety. He quoted examples of site safety risk reduction through detailed pre-construction planning using new technology."

[Mr. Stephen K K Fong
CII-HK Executive Board Member]
